  1. Had an email from a conference inviting me to submit a talk, so I checked their site to see the process for applying. Two red flags that jumped out immediately: 1) There's an interview as part of the process. 2) The selection committee is just a group of 7 white men.

      Then once you've passed that, they want to be actively involved in you creating the talk.

        I can't support a conference that has this level of bias and a massive lack of trust built in to their process.

          Oh also, they don't pay. They want you to bend to their will and don't pay.

            I only have 3 requirements for applying to a conference: 1) Fair and documented selection process 2) A good code of conduct 3) Pay for speakers accommodation and travel These aren't exactly high bars to meet, but I've seen too many conferences that don't.
